The American Wine Society has announced the winners of its 2007 International Wine Competition held in October in Philadelphia, including locally owned Keels Creek Winery. Our dry red varietal wine, “Chambourcin” (2006), was awarded a GOLD medal by the society and our red blend, “Sweet Springs”, won a BRONZE medal.
Hundreds of commercial wines from all over the world were entered in the October competition and the results announced at the AWS National Conference on November 2. This year’s AWS winners came from three countries, two Canadian provinces, and 33 states. The only winner from Arkansas was Keels Creek Winery.
In the Wines of the South Competition of 2007 those same two vintages took BRONZE medals. That competition took place in October at the University of Tennessee, with 429 wines from 61 wineries in 11 states competing.
And at the recent Arkansas State Fair Wine Competition, the 2006 Chambourcin was presented with a GOLD, a Double GOLD, and a Best of Show. Keels Creek’s 2006 Cynthiana won a GOLD medal, and the 2006 Signature Red received a silver medal.
