About

Keels Creek Winery, located at 3185 E. Van Buren along with Keels Creek Art Gallery, received its Arkansas Retail Wine License and Federal Permits in 2006. We also represent all of the wineries in Arkansas. We have the largest selection of Arkansas wines in the State including Mount Bethel, Cowie Wine Cellars, Chateau Aux Arc, Post Familie and Wiederkehr Wine Cellars.

The Vineyards are located in the Hills of Keels Creek, down Rock House Road about 3 miles from the city limits of Eureka Springs. The ten acres of their land which was initially planted in 2004 and 2005 now contains over 10 varieties of grape that will come in full production another 3 years. Co-owners Doug Hausler and Edwige Denyszyn estimate that the optimal production from the vineyard will be about 40 tons of grapes which will make about 5000 gallons of wine.

The retail wine sales are located in the Spanish-style building that is shared with Keels Creek Art Gallery and located at 3185 E. Van Buren. The spaciousness allows an open feel for the art where viewers can relax in the wing-back chairs by the two massive stone fireplaces or sit in the enclosed patio where the motif is accented by furniture made from old wine barrels.

The winery production began Fall of 2006. Although the Keels Creek Vineyards will provide a small portion of the grapes that will go into the wine this year, Dr. Hausler has worked with regional vineyards to be able to make approximately 1800 gallons of wine in 2006 and 2007. Keels Creek Winery is the seventh bonded winery in Arkansas. There are four others in Altus, one in Paris (AR) and one in Hot Springs. It is Doug’s belief that Arkansas wines should be promoted whenever possible and as a commitment to that belief, he will be carrying the largest selection of Arkansas wines in the state.

In 2006, we put up 1700 gallons of wine of which 1200 gallons are in American (Missouri) Oak Barrels. We had 2800 gallons of capacity but we missed the early white harvest due to construction delays.

For 2007, we have increased our capacity to almost 4000 gallons.

We have 825, 500, 295, 150 and 50 gallon SS tanks for storage and fermentation.

The Barrel Room is approximately 800 square feet and is mostly underground. It is held at 55 F year round.

The Fermentation Room is approximately 800 square feet, has 15 foot ceilings and also contains a laboratory.
